Pounds of Plenty Food Drive

In honor of Gov. Dan Moody’s birthday the Moody Museum will once again be collecting non-perishable food and monetary donations to benefit Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry. Snacks and cold lemonade will be served on the front porch to all who bring donations.

In 1926 when Gov. Moody and his new bride moved into the Governor’s Mansion, the East Texas Chamber of Commerce held a food drive (this was an old tradition called a pounding where people donated a pound of some food item) and stocked the pantry at the Governor’s Mansion for the newlyweds. Knowing that history, this seems an appropriate way to commemorate his June birthday.
